The Malaysian Tmber Council, in its effort to promote the better and wider use of timber, has initiated a programme to educate the general public on the proper usage of timber. This book is aprt of the Council's overall effort to encourage the wider use of timber in architecture in Malaysia, by focusing on the proper usage of timbers in the construction sector.

The book is divided into four sections, following the steps that architects usually follow in their project planning and implementation. Section A deals with the Schematic Design Phase, where timber and timber products are introduced. Section B follows the Design Development Phase, where the applications of timber are detailed. Section C is the Contract Documentation Phase, where the salient points for spectifying timbers are listed. Section D deals with the Contract Implementation and Management Phase, where the handling and installation of timber at site is disccussed.

The Malaysian Timber Council is proud to publish this book, which is the first Malaysia publication to systematically present all the necessary tchnical information on timber to allow architects to confidently work with this material. It is our hope that this book will prove useful not only to the professionals, but also to students of architecture in Malaysia.
