Plywood is one of the major wood-based panel products. Besides a brief explanation on plywood manufacture, this article discusses the basic attributes of plywood which are essential to be known, i.e., bonding quality, bending performance and free formaldehyde content. Currently, there are two classifications for bonding quality, and six classifications on formaldehyde emission limit for plywood are explained. Type of tests to determine the plywood properties are elaborated. The bending performance is determined by bending test. Three types of test for bonding quality determination are: bonding shear test, delamination test and knife test. Formaldehyde content of plywood can be determined by static emission testing method, dynamic emission testing method and total amount testing method.
