FRIM in Focus serves as avenue for the Institute to interact and communicate effectively with clients from the forestry and timber industries. It started as a bi-annual publication and evolved into a tri-annual and finally into a quarterly newsletter of Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM). The newsletter strives to fulfill the varied interests of its readers by producing articles on research and development (R&D) and other related activities. This way, the publication seeks to create awareness on the role of the Institute in the nation’s forestry and forest products sector.
Articles in the newsletter cover FRIM R&D in areas such as forestry and environment, forest products, forestry biotechnology, forest biodiversity and natural products. Activities which support the core R&D such as research management, commercialisation and innovation, corporate communications and technical services are also included, in addition to news material. In view of the diverse topics covered by FRIM in Focus, an effort was undetaken to compile articles according to specific themes for easy reference.
The first compilation of FRIM in Focus is entitled Focus on Forest products. As the name suggests, articles on the subject of forest products totalling 114 are arranged in the form of a book. These articles are further categorised into 10 sections including biocomposite, wood protection, biodegradation, furniture technology and design, furniture testing, timber engineering and design, gree technology, bioenergy, pulp and paper, as well as wood and non-wood quality and anatomy. It is hoped that the compilation will facilitate readers in gaining easier access to various topics on forest products R&D at FRIM.
