Anthoshorea roxburghii is an indigenous dipterocarp, also known by the vernacular name of meranti temak nipis. The timber is grouped together with other Anthoshorea spp., recognised and traded as white meranti. Evidently, A. roxburghii is a promising timber species for large-scale monoculture plantations. FRIM has conducted mechanical tests on timber samples of 12-year-old A. roxburghii. The construction industry practises a strength grouping system to classify timbers based on mechanical criteria. Timbers having similar strength and stiffness properties are grouped together for simplicity in the design procedure. This article provides a comprehensive calculation of the grade stresses as well as the strength grouping arrangement of A. roxburghii from plantations.
